Generation Equality - Beijing 2020
 

UN Women is bringing together the next generations of women’s rights activists with the gender equality advocates and visionaries who were instrumental in creating the Beijing Platform for Action more than two decades ago.

The Generation Equality campaign demands equal pay, equal sharing of unpaid care and domestic work, an end to sexual harassment and all forms of violence against women and girls, health-care services that respond to their needs, and their equal participation in political life and decision-making in all areas of life.

UN Women and FIFA Team Up for Gender Equality

At the Global Women’s Football Convention, UN Women and FIFA signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together to change policies, raise awareness on gender equality, and use soccer as a tool to empower women and girls worldwide.

“UN Women and FIFA are committed to leveling the playing field for women and girls, leveraging [soccer]'s mass appeal to bring positive change around the world. We are confident that this partnership will make a real difference to the gender inequality that we currently see in all sports, and that we are working to end throughout society, knowing that the benefits are for everyone." - UN Women ED Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka

My professional work is in leadership development and training, and I plan to have the same focus within the Chapter for the board and committee members. I’d like to see our Chapter grow and increase our identity within the Chicago area, and I believe finding and developing the right people for our chapter leadership is a key part of that.

Stephanie Bruder
Co-President, Metro NY

Stephanie is a media executive with an instinct for cultivating an audience and leading business development. Having guided strategy for releases such as Academy Award-nominee The Invisible War, she joined the Metro NY board in 2017 and produced 2018’s Champions of Change Awards. Her vision is to capture awareness and donations through great storytelling, memorable events and by unleashing the talent of chapter committees. 
Jazmin Freddi M.D., MBA, MPH
President, Miami

Jazmin Freddi, MD holds an MBA and MPH from Johns Hopkins University. She is a global health and gender equality advocate. Her vision for the Miami Chapter for this year is to create innovative partnerships and events to engage the community and raise awareness locally of global women's issues while raising more funds and expanding membership to support the efforts of UN Women.
 
Gulf Coast Chapter's
Through Women's Eyes Film Festival

In April, the Gulf Coast Chapter held its 20th annual Through Women's Eyes International Film Festival (TWE). The festival featured a diverse collection of outstanding films that were made by or showcased brave and inspiring women. The chapter sold out all TWE ticket packages and raised a record amount for UN Women's work. Attendees enjoyed a Fabulous Filmmakers Reception where a panel of featured filmmakers discussed the challenge of making movies by and about women. 
 
San Francisco Bay Area's Global Voices Film Festival

On May 16th & 18th, the SF Bay Area Chapter presented their third Global Voices Film Festival.

The Women in VR Showcase, held at the GoPro Headquarters, was headlined by keynote speaker Megan Sullivan. Megan wrote and directed a four-part Virtual Reality series "Courage to Question", produced by Google and UN Women featuring Women's Rights Defenders from around the world.

Ten films were showcased at the Lucasfilm Premier Theater with keynote speeches from Rhonda Hjort, Deputy Chief Counsel at Lucasfilm, and Athena Portillo, executive producer in Lucasfilm Animation.

The festival ended with a panel discussion with filmmakers and presentations by Dr, Kathleen Tarr and Dr. Caroline Heldman at Salesforce headquarters.

The event sold over 700 tickets and was a huge success in raising awareness surrounding gender inequity in the film and entertainment space.
 
Metro NY's “I ♥ EQUALITY” Influencer Campaign 

Timed to highlight the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 2020, the “I ♥ Equality” campaign kicks off with a limited edition t-shirt designed exclusively by artist Marco Santini, declaring “Equality” in 50 languages.

Proceeds support UN Women programs in nearly 100 countries.

Greater LA's 4th Annual Assembly

On June 22, the Greater LA Chapter will present ’Belonging and Displacement: Uniting Heads, Hearts, and Hands’.

The event aims to probe the realities of displacement and share stories, experiences, innovative tools and approaches for greater belonging, and will feature the global work of UN Women while honoring local efforts in Los Angeles.
