Walk with Us: The Power of Community
Saturday, February 1, at 9 a.m. Payne Park, Sarasota.
The event begins early with our always-successful online fundraising campaign. Then on Saturday, February 1, come learn more about our chapter, enjoy breakfast, and walk in beautiful Payne Park to help raise awareness about Violence Against Women. Form a team with your friends, family, book club, work or organizational buddies. Or just come on your own and meet our friendly members. Leashed dogs are welcome. We start at 9 AM.
Last year, because of your efforts, we raised more than $16,000! We walk not only to educate and advocate. We walk to raise valuable funds to support UN Women programs which fight inequality and violence at its roots and provide support for women experiencing violence.
Each year, the Gulf Coast Chapter of UN Women USA walks to raise awareness about violence against women and to raise funds for programs that combat the problem. Women and girls continue to be harmed and exploited simply because of their gender; worldwide, 35% of women experience physical and/or sexual intimate violence during their lifetime. Help us raise funds to combat this worldwide!
Our 2019 Walk was a great success!
Thank you to all who gave of their time, talents, and donations to our walk at Payne Park. We had a record number of people walking to increase awareness about violence against women. We also bypassed our goal for this event and with your help, raised more than $16,500 to support UN Women programs for women and girls around the globe.
A warm thank you to those local agencies and organizations that work to better the lives of women and girls. Joining us in this effort were:
- Dining For Women
- Manatee Habitat for Humanity
- Girl Up! (teams from Lakewood Ranch and Riverview high schools)
- Manatee League of Women Voters
- Selah Freedom
- Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida
- Sarasota Police Department
- Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center (SPARCC)

Why do we walk?
Because women and girls continue to be harmed and exploited. Worldwide, 35% of women experience physical and/or sexual intimate violence during their lifetime. That's more than one third of all women!
