Victoria Baird- Co-Founder & Executive Director
Co-founder and executive director of UN Women USA for UN Women Utah chapter. Victoria is originally from Russia. She has three degrees and a mother of two teenagers. She worked in academia for 10 years, 5 years in business and spent 6 years in a non-profit world. She established the chapter in October 2013 because she is passionate about human rights especially women's rights. She loves to do yoga and Zumba, write and paint in her spare time.
Kate Button- Communications Specialist
Kate is a sophomore at the University of Utah, and she is pursuing an honors bachelors degree in English, with minors in Spanish and Philosophy. With UN Women USA for UN Women Utah, she serves as the secretary and newsletter specialist. Kate is interested in becoming a journalist in order to share stories and advocate for justice in current events. At the University of Utah, she is also involved with the Bennion Center, Fraternity and Sorority Life, the Honors College, and the Daily Utah Chronicle. When she has a free moment, Kate loves to read, paint, and practice yoga.
Danielle Martinez-Social Media Specialist
Danielle is currently pursuing her master's at the University of Utah in Education, Leadership, and Policy, emphasis on social justice. As a first generation Latina and daughter of immigrants she has a personal passion for refugee and immigration work in higher education and policy. As an undergrad, Danielle was involved and lived everywhere including London and D.C. Currently, Danielle works as a graduate assistant in Student Affairs on campus. As a native of LA Danielle enjoys long walks on the beach, reading, and cheese tasting.
Vlada Yaremenko - Public Relations Specialist
Vlada Yaremenko is a senior at the University of Utah pursuing a degree in International Studies focusing on Culture and Identity and a minor in Music. She has been on the board since August 2016 and has served as the VP of PR and Membership Committee. Vlada is originally from Ukraine, however, she also lived in Germany and India. During her time in India in the summer of 2018, she worked with a local NGO, Maitri India, that strives to restore identity, dignity, and respect for all, especially women and children. Her main involvement focused around working with underprivileged children of New Delhi where she taught English and facilitated musical activities. At Maitri, she also performed secondary research related to destitute and abandoned widows of Vrindavan. Vlada loves traveling and learning about new cultures, and she hopes to continue her work on women’s issues in developing countries and share her love for music with women of the world.
Diana Smith- Fundraising Specialist
Diana Smith is the current board member for fundraising at UN Women USA UN Women Utah Chapter. She is a former student at the University of Utah and is currently majoring in International Pre-Law and Global Justice at Dixie State University. She is a senior and expected graduation is May 2019. Post-graduation, her plans include joining the Peace Corp, obtaining an International Law Degree and working for the United Nations. She is a current volunteer with the Dove Center and advocate for the Rape Recovery Center. In her spare time, she fosters animals for the Humane Society, is a member of Dixie State University Student Government, and a social activist. Her hobbies include cooking, swimming, and attending events in the community.
Lizzie Haroldsen- Intern
Elizabeth Haroldsen is a junior at the University of Utah studying English with minor in Japanese. She is currently interning with UN Women, working in public relations and event planning. Elizabeth has a passion for learning, and she hopes to share the same opportunities she's received to learn and grow with women and girls worldwide. Along with her work here, she is an active LDSSA committee member at the University of Utah. Elizabeth is an avid Whovian and proud Hufflepuff, and you can catch her jamming out to show tunes in her spare time.
Sarah Potts- Intern
Sara Potts is a Senior at the University of Utah, graduating in December with a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and a minor in Spanish. Sara hopes to pursue a Masters in Latin American/ Latino Art History after graduating from the U, focusing on the evolution of Mexican printmaking. This love of art history stems from her belief in the ability of art to heal and reconcile social, political and cultural prejudices. With UN Women USA for UN Women Utah, she is the current Hinckley intern serving on the PR and Fundraising committees. Outside of school, Sara is the Museum Experience Manager at The Leonardo Museum where she combines her passion or art and strong organizational and inter-personal skills to engage guests in a unique museum environment. In her free time Sara loves cheering on the Utah Utes from the stands of the MUSS, visiting local art galleries, and taking in the wonderous beauty of the Wasatch mountains.
